You need to first uninstall the AA 9. This can be done from the Start>Control Panel>Programs & Features. Then open AA 8 and go to Help>Repair. The disabling of AA 9 and the removal will break AA 8 as you seem to indicate. If you expect to have any chance of running AA 8 of a Win 8 machine, you will also need to install the updates.
