In my opinion, don't waste your time. Connecting DW to a database is really only useful if you're planning on using their server behaviors. Dreamweaver server behaviors are woefully outdated, produce code that does not conform to today's standards, are very limited in functionality, and create overly complicated code to perform very simple tasks. You are much better off learning the fundamentals of PHP and MySQL (or whichever scripting language/ DBMS you want to use) and not focus on any DW specifics.
